Tattoo care
Initial Care (First 48 Hours)
Keep the bandage or adhesive film on as instructed by your artist, typically 3-4 hours for plastic wrap or up to 48 hours for films like Tegaderm. Wash hands thoroughly before removing it, then gently clean with lukewarm water and fragrance-free, antibacterial soap, patting dry without rubbing. Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment or moisturizer immediately after.
Daily Routine (Days 3-15)
Wash the tattoo 2-3 times daily with unscented soap and lukewarm water, then pat dry and apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer like those with shea butter or aloe vera. Avoid over-moisturizing to prevent suffocation; less is better for healing. Continue this for two weeks or until peeling stops.
Long-Term Maintenance
Once healed (2-4 weeks), moisturize daily and apply SPF 30+ sunscreen to prevent fading, especially on exposed areas. Drink plenty of water for skin hydration.
What to Avoid
Steer clear of direct sun, hot baths, swimming, tight clothes, heavy exercise, and picking scabs to minimize infection and scarring risks . No harsh soaps, petroleum products, or rubbing the area . Consult your artist or a dermatologist for allergies or issues.
